At the intersection of goodness

Some time ago SunriseArc had occasion to seek a favor in support of an upcoming event: get the autograph(s) of notable artists, songwriters or producers of a compilation of monster hits that would be offered for auction as a centerpiece item. After some due diligence a contact was made to a person with connections to these good folk and the process of requests began.

What is remarkable is that there was one individual out there with utterly no connection to or association with our cause who would take up our request to find people for autographs. That person was, as fortune had it, intimately connected with and at the center of one of the greatest accomplishments in the entertainment business. He was literally on the ground floor of the most successful record industry legend: Motown.

What is even more remarkable is that someone out there with no connection to us would take valued time to fulfill a request from a complete stranger. In a coarse and uncertain world we come to the intersection of goodness where someone does a decent and good thing for its own sake. And that is remarkable…

Painting Happiness

2/28/2008 – Clermont, FL – February 27, 2008

Clermont, FL – Is it possible to paint happiness? That was the question proposed to the United Way and South Lake’s Publix “Heavenly Helpers” program on Wednesday, February 27th.

Wednesday morning, SunriseArc teamed up with this “All-Star” cast to paint “the Presidio House,” one of SunriseArc’s many group homes for people with cognitive learning disabilities around the Central Florida area. Upon arrival, they wasted no time in achieving the goal that they had set out to accomplish. Working in unison with a “refreshing” since of “Heavenly Helper” harmony, they were finished painting, and had begun piecing back together SunriseArc’s Presidio Home.

During the course of the project, a guest appearance was made by two of the resident’s of the home, Donna and Yom Le. They were interested in seeing how the project was coming along and if there was anything they could do to help. All and all, it was a fantastic day full of fun and happiness. These two wonderful organizations proved that it is in fact possible to paint happiness in the hearts and souls of those who need it most!

Special thanks are in order to all involved including: Sue Cordova and (name) – the United Way Andy Heavenfodge, Tome Bradley, David Wilson, Rick Harris, Devon Bush, Jim Pumond, Russell Fountain, Mike Cherry, Don Lucas, Brenda Johnson, Tina Carson, and Rodney Sumayoa – South Lake Publix Managers and members of the “Heavenly Helpers.”

For contact information on how to reach the United Way or the Heavenly Helpers, or for more information about upcoming SunriseArc community events, please contact Sam Weekley, SunriseArc Marketing Coordinator. Email: sweekley@sunrisearc.org Phone: (352) 787-3079 ext. 12
